BUZZING!

Only one way to describe the energy during a birthday celebration workshop by Sony.

With an array of new products proudly displayed by the entrance of the hall, participants were excited to engage in the interactive workshop hosted by Sony Ambassadors who are paving the way in South African and global creative industries.

I have been an advocate for Sony since the first release of Sony Alpha 7 camera,

back in the days when people would debate which is better; Canon 5D or Sony A7...

In 2014, I went for Sony and have never regretted it since.

The quality of visuals that can be captured from their devices is exquisite,

even on the original model of the A7 (which I still use to this day).

The first session was hosted by Fathima & Seraz from Through The Lens Photography, whom I had the pleasure of meeting at a previous Sony x ORMS workshop that they hosted earlier in the year. They are so friendly and welcoming, a trait that is innate and deeply appreciated, they make each and every person feel seen and heard. Not only that but their photographic skills are on point, as well as sharing important wisdom from a business perspective that they gained through many years of experience in the wedding industry. Understanding the business side of creativity is underrated, which is why I pick their brains every time I see them!

An inspirational couple with warm hearts.

The second session was all about filmmaking with Ofentse Mwase, XCIV and Ian Nieuwenhuizen.

As you can imagine, with such a great group of creatives, the information shared was incredibly insightful.

A musician and an actress performed in a scene that was set up in front of the audience to example the use of lights from certain angles, as well as props such as a lamp which is not only decorative but also creates another element of depth in lighting.

So many tips and tricks such as; designing a scene with consideration for lighting to invoke different emotions,

discussing the variety of potential shot types and planning how to use them in a sequence

camera movements including basic gimbal shots

how to behave within a team and the professional boundaries that should be respected

with an end note of..

"Just be a nice person"

The final session was Fashion Photography with Anthony Bila

A creative concept titled "Vegan Friendly" the attendees were challenged to see photography differently and be intentional with each shot they take. Anthony captivated the audience with his insight which moved the entire room (quite literally - when it came to photographing the models it felt like fighting with paparazzi!) It was an exhilarating experience

My favourite product of the day was the Sony Aplha7 IV with 70mm-200mm G master zoom lens. The speed, clarity and amazing auto settings help to make my job as a photographer so much easier! Combined with a swift transfer directly to my phone via the Image Edge app where I can review my images instantly.

The workshop celebrated Sony's birthday and it was definitely the place to be!

I'm sorry if you missed out, but at least now you know to keep an eye out for future Sony workshops and/or ORMS events.
